: I am not here to make excuses for the film's box office, it did product a profit but it also could have done more. The film should have went and got a marketable leading lady, like in Strike Back with S. Elizebeth, fuck everyone may not even have liked Nadia but it got over well with a fan base, but whoever the leading actress was shit for god sakes I can't remember her name but she held down the movie. Also I think that Jason Lee and Affleck should have led the cast instead of Affleck and Damon, no offense to Damon but I find Lee a much better actor. He has also proven himself in the 2 previous films so I find Dogma's casting to be complete bullshit, and who headed up it should be ashamed. I do give congrats on Strike Back's casting though. I could have done without Kevin's wife as a "hot chick", no offense to the wife but please ACTORS AND ACTRESSES! Thanks
if the film works. Affleck and Damon worked wonderfully, and what the fuck are you talking about, Shannon Elizabeth as Bethany?! She dosen't have the acting chops to carry off that characters emotional complexity. But I guess you can't see that, because you don't know her name! Who the fuck cares?! Big name or not, the only thing that matters is if they're right for the part. Linda Fiorientino (the name of the actress you couldn't name, and the fact that you couldn't name her makes me seriously question how much you know about film) was good for the part, not great, but decent. Admittedly, Janene Garafalo might have been better, but perhaps shes not recognizable enough for you? Kevin Smith movies are about people, not big name actors, and to suggest that they are, or that they would improve if they were about the actors, is to slight the man himself. Who gives a shit what Dogma grossed? It was a good movie and we can all leave it at that. It sure as fuck was better than most of the cavalcade of stars movies that have come out recently. Lets examine if we will, Mars Attacks, and this years flaming piece Ocean's 11. Big stars don't make good movies, great performances do, and Shannon Elizabeth, as attractive as she may be, and as good at she is at bubblegum acting (meaning shallow variations on the same performance) she can not pull off a role of any emotional weight. Good movies come from high quality, not star quantity, and the suuner you learn that truth, the sooner I'll be able to respect your opinions on films. Not trying to offend, but I must say, your post really pissed me off. Gotta jett!
