Film Festivals and V-Thon

Now that the Vulgarthon madness is over, I feel it's right for me to make a post about it.
Obviously, I'm a "late bloomer" to the Kevin Smith Collecton. I just bought Clerks and the rest in early summer. And therefore, I am a bit behind.
But to the point.
Clerks has inspired me to dabble in a bit of screenwriting of my own. But I'm not here to sell a script. (I can read the rules) And of course, one of the best places to get your film shown is a film festival. But before I do that, I'd like to attend some film festivals (mostly indy stuff) and see what the product is, how they do it, and what I have to compete against.
So, as a real non-askew question... Are there any good, cheaper, reputable film fesitvals (outside of Sundance and Cannes) that are worth attending for a wannabe filmmaker or at least a big movie fan?
