"Jersey Girl will be the first View Askew "period piece", as it takes place in the mid-to-late 80's or early 90's."
Kevin - love your flicks and everything but won't this make you the first director to do a period piece about the period in which that director's films were respected?
And it's so soon, careful you might be wiser to save your period piece for 15 years from now when others have done it bad so you can swoop in boogie nights style and make an authentic one. Jay and Bob looked better but since production isn't exactly the View Askew trademark don't you think going to such an indiosyncratic time period without resorting to camp is going to be a tall order for you guys? No offense intended but what is this board for if not gaining/giving insight, and I'd like to warn you and/or hear why you're not worried about these issues. Will people think this is like Hughes making an 80's teen movie circa Curly Sue? (which come to think of it would have been nice to avoid.) Or Francis Ford Coppola doing another mafia movie set in mid/late 20th century? While technically you have never made an 80's film, I doubt I will be the only one to notice that the guy who gave Jay and Bob their own movie likes to go back to the well. It could still work, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing you move forward for a few more films before looking back. Thoughts?
