I may have read a misquote, in looking for what I read before I saw a lot of mention that Jackson Himself wanted to recut the movie, which is very cool. When a Director wishes to make changes to his own film I'm all for it (Even Lucas, If said director makes a classic film into a giant pile of weird choices and stupid mistakes, I'm still in favor of the director/creator doing it, it's his creation!)
I was off on a rant because I thought there was some pressure to make Peter Jackson add a bunch of violent shots just for the sake of making an R rated cut. The movie is wonderful the way it is now, but if Peter Jackson wants to recut it then what the hell. I'm happy to watch that version too!
: In the current Fangoria (January 2002), "At this stage, I haven't cut anything for the DVD, but if the studio is willing to give me a free hand to do a true director's cut, I'd certainly tend to put more fighting in there. We haven't filmed anything exceptionally violent, since we're aiming for a PG-13, but I believe we could slip a few things in on the DVD that wouldn't allow it to go for that rating."
: Does someone have a quote from someone more knowledgeable than PJ and/or more recently?
