: : All I can say to you is get your payment upfront. At least try to get half or 75% upfront and turn over the master copy of the work after the money hits your account. If you do things that way you will not be at a total loss if your client pulls out of the deal.

: I did, I got half upfront (part of my agreement / contract)...during the post process, since the location audio sucked (and the director had it transferred to 3/4", WTF) i realized how f'ed i was, and they agreed to give me extra. IM gonan get technical here: when they asked for the work I had done so far, so they could see it and possibly help, I sent them a ProTools session, per their request. Thats when I didnt get it back.
: Keep in mind, starting indie films isnt always about "business" We do things to gain notariety, improve our reel, or just gain experience. Treating the biz like "justa biz" will serve you no good, IMHO. You wont love it, or live it, it will just be a job. And thats no life.
Oh, I agree with you on the last part. I know that indies can help out your reel. But did the guy include your name in the credits? Can you use it on your resume or on your reel? I hope that he included your name.
As for the biz part, I agree to an extent. I know it is art and all about getting the name out there, but dude... you gotta eat. I am glad that you got a little money out of the deal. I guess when you are dealing with Indies you never know if they will pay off or not. That is the gamble that you take.
As for the sound of the picture, I assume that they didn't have a boom guy there with a DAT recorder just in case there was a sound problem? OUCH! When I am filming or running a crew I always have a DAT for back up. I think you can get 32 bit sound out of a DAT.
