I'll do this point-by-point
-The two men (John G and the other guy) raped his wife.
-The wife survives.
-Teddy was assigned to the rape case
-Leonard kills his wife the way he thinks Sammy killed HIS wife. Sammy never killed anyone.
-Leonard gets locked away.
-Leonard escapes.
-Teddy helps Leonard find John G
-Leonard kills John G
-Teddy takes a picture of Leonard seconds after the murder, pointing to the bare spot on his chest
-Leonard burns the picture to keep his life from being "empty"
-Leonard crosses out passages and takes away pages of the COMPLETED police file to make the mystery unsolvable.
-Irony sets in. In an effort to give his life meaning, he destroys it by killing the man who was on his side, Teddy.
-He will forever be searching without any results from now on.
That is what happened. I studied the film and basically everything I could find so I could disprove all those "It's all how you see it" people who don't fully get it.
