: : .........has been getting some pretty mixed reviews, huh? Fuck, I LOVE
: : VS. Just been trying to figure out what people think. It's an interesting
: : thing because it's kind of catching people off guard, or just confusing
: : people. It's tricky, but interesting at the same time to see what it's
: : been stirring up. Anyway, hello all.
: : Burt Reynolds
: I was surprised by the vitriol of some of the reviews, when I'd seen the original and found it to be such a bold, thought-provoking story. Then I went to see VS here in London at a critics' screening last Friday, and when I expressed my fondness for the film, I was bombarded with people complaining that they just got fed up with the complicated plot and just didn't care what was going on by the last half hour.
: I think it's like an expensive, beautifullly made "arthouse" film. I say arthouse, because I just don't think audiences like film which they can't get a hook on immediately. People can cope with Spanish films being a bit odd, a bit weird, because they almost expect subtitled films to be a bit "out there". They don't expect it of Tom Cruise or even Cameron Crowe.
: I genuinely loved it, but then I loved Eyes Wide Shut and A.I., two more similarly expensive but challenging films. I loved how Crowe humanised the story - it was almost scene for scene like Open Your Eyes, but the Crowe dialogue (especially some of your lines) shone through.
: and THAT soundtrack...
: I say, fuck the critics, you should be proud to be in such a richly provocative film. Hey, everyone hated Apocalypse Now ehen it first came out...
