: It is unbelievable to me that in this day and age that some people espically those who attend a major university(Penn State University) can be so narrow minded. I had a group project in my Psychology class - Psy 471 Psy of Gender. My group came up with the topic of gender stereotypes between men and women when it comes to sex. In other words why guys are studs if they sleep with a lot of women, and girls are hoes if they sleep with a lot of men. We decided to make a short film and not make it boring like the other presentations. We interviewed girls/guys at local bars. I did the editing of the film and decided to use 3 clips in Chasing Amy to get our point across. These clips were genius work by Kevin Smith and fit perfectly into the movie. The lay out was as follows: opening clip was of Banky giving the North yearbook to Holdon and their arguement, it then went to a montage of clips from interviews of girls and guys defining what a stud and a slut was to them, second clip was another from Chasing Amy when Holden confronted Alyassa at the Hockey game and parking lot, then it went unto another montage of interviews of girls/guys saying how many guys a girl had to sleep with to be a slut and how many girls did a guy have to sleep with to be a pimp/stud, final clip of Jay/Bob/Holden in the diner when Bob tells his story "Chasing Amy" tieing everything together which addressed a lot of issues we wanted covered, then credits. I thought it was a great idea. After the movie some guy (idot) in the back siad " I can see you guys put a lot of effort into your project but I was highly offended by those clips and felt it was inappropraiate for the classroom. Another girl in the class said it was diffcult to watch the movie clips. Boy was I boiling. I tried to keep my mouth shout, it was so hard. The professor said it was a little racey. MY GOD!!! I was so angry and felt such a rush of emotions. In a college setting wouldn't you think that people can read between the lines. Chasing Amy was genius and true to life, even the language, a realistic master piece. These stuck up ass holes don't know shit. I was offended by a lot of language and content in the movie "American History X", but the movie had a powerful point and the content was there for a reason. I feel the same way about Kevin Smith movies. The point is always brought across in some way and in this particular movie Silent Bob's scene was beautifully put together and brought an interesting answer and a very true answer to Holden's problem at hand. PURE GENIUS. I pay these assholes at this university for bullshit opinions even some professors. And it is unbelieveable to me that college students would be offended when it is a common everyday language and stiuation that occurs. I think it is sad when an idot has to make a comment like that, when this university is consumed with racism, riots, high drinking population and pre-martial sex. What other university has a row of bars across the street from campus and some fools have the right to be so judgemental about other things. My main point is that Kevin Smith has taken a lot of critism from people and I actually witnessed it myself today. If Kevin ever reads this I just wanna say you are a genius and don't ever change what you are doing. You are an amazing writer/director and deserve a lot more respect. You bring a lot of contraversial issues to light in a funny/realistic way than other movies. God Bless you and I'm behind you 100%.
