I have noticed that most people who thought AMERICAN PSYCHO was a comedy liked it and a majority of those who didn't didn't. I'm sure there are complications beyond that, but it's a running theme.
With A CLOCKWORK ORANGE it doesn't seem as simple as that, but there seem to be a large portion of the population resistant to laughing along with it. That's their right, but it's a film so brilliant, I can't even quite grasp it. I watch it at least once year or so. I mean to watch my DVD (previously my tape) and I'm frequently thwarted by an unexpected theatrical showing. I find something new every time.
