The less people around... or at least... the less people actively posting, the more civil and ordered the discourse. The less participants, the better people get to know each other, the longer it takes for a particular board to spiral out of control... even if there is a wild thread or three... and more simply, more time for people to answer questions so less people get all offended that their questions weren't dealt with.
It's not necessarily a problem of too many NEW people... just too MANY people.
Now, is there something to be said for that particular kind of new poster who bitches people out for answering if they're not Kevin, begs to get red people to reply to them for some sort of weird bragging rights, who don't read the board rules or the summaries or don't think they apply to them? Glory hounds, job beggars and people with a general sense of entitlement?
Sure. Lots of things. Lots of bad things.
But those assholes have to be shamed out of here... then a few of them will be pissed off and return as quickly banned flamers. Then they're gone. The only problem with that kind of newbie, these days, is that there aren't enough people speaking out against them... and some people start to think that that's ACTUALLY how you converse around here.
But those people are... only like two percent of newbies anyway.
In general, new people isn't the problem... overpopulation is.
