Hi Kevin,
I'm Lisa, a Drama Student in England and I am writing a 5000 word project all about you and your films, particularly looking at the marketing and reception of JASBSB, which is coming out here on the 30th.
I am inspired by your work and also thoroughly amused.
I love the characters and Chasing Amy is one of my alltime favourite films. Alanis as God, also vv funny. She scares me. Anyway.
Would you please help me in my project, as this is a huge chunk of my final degree and I want to get a First cos I am a big swot. I would love to get any kind of correspondence from you and honestly would be eternlly grateful.
1. Did you have a big part in the marketing of the film?
2. If you had to categorise your films generically, how would you do so?
3. Would you like to think that your films defied genre classification? Have you got your own sub-genre name for your films?
4. For each of the 5 films, could you tell me how you would describe them in ten words?
5. Is 'Jersey Girl' going to be a comedy or drama, or do these terms limit what you want to portray in the film?
6. What other films by other directors have influuenced your work? Do you think your concepts are truly unique or do they purposely borrow from other films?
7. Is 'Jersey Girl' a complete departure, or will it still cross-reference to characters from the previous films?
There are quite a few more questions I would like to ask, although I am sure these will occur to me as I begin to write up my project. The deadline for my submission is the 25th January next year, but obviously I want to gather as much information as possible over the next two weeks before the film is released so that I can chart its popularity and reception over here.
The articles you posted about the test audiences are exactly the type of information I need as I can really scrutinise these and use them for quotes etc.
Finally, I was wondering if you will be in the UK for the release of the movie, and if so whether you will be attending the premiere and/or any press conferences or the like in London where I could possibly meet up with you in person. Again, if this was possible, it would be extremely useful for my project (not to mention a treat for me as a fan of your films).
Any help you can give me is gratefully received. I am only 20 years old, and am hoping I have a long and fruitful career in film ahead of me, so I guess you can feel good about helping someone out who is needing guidance and inspiration at this stage in their lives.
Cheers buddy,
Lisa Harvey.
ps. fannybob is a fictious character that I have written some songs about. fannybob is sexless. just in case you were wondering.
