I am now suffering from complete View Askew overload. Last week it was worrying about getting Vulgarthon tickets and not corrupting my students by telling them the other K.S. films. This weekend it was killer anticipation and dialing, and then about 20 phone calls to the people I'm traveling with to make arrangements and evil plans. And those phone calls don't stop. We really can't keep this up for another 2 months. Plus, I've been on the board way way too much.
And then, today, after I'd started to calm down and get back into the normal swing of things, one of my favorite kids had something he wanted to show me in study hall, and he doesn't know anything about my obsession. So what was it?
The Heroes comic that you can't find anywhere around here.
[The book is gorgeous. Really really good.]
So what did I do instead of grading papers or planning lessons? That's right. Spent the time completely absorbed in the book. And then the conversation turned to comics and I lost whatever control I did have of the class. Now what kind of example does that set for my students?
I'm starting to think that I have a serious problem.
How bout the rest of you? Are there any other losers out there who spend time doing askewy stuff when there are duties that need to be performed or young minds to be shaped? And is this a problem we should get help for, like a crack addiction? Or is it a normal hobby which people become obsessed with, like golf?
XOXO--Courtney
