Bartleby & Loki weren't kicked out of Heaven right then. I think they were there for years after Christ was crucified. They may also have an extra-sensory perception on people also. For example, they both knew about peoples' pasts and if they were sinners or not. Maybe they used this power to see who Rufus really was.
