Lets see you go on a television show in front of millions, live no less, and see how much "comedic range" you can come up with.
You can criticize all you want, but that won’t change the opinions of others. Kevin happens to think Will Ferrell is funny, that’s why he cast him in the film. So it doesn’t really matter what your opinion on the subject is in the first place.
