... what an intellectual wasteland this board has become.
1. "Short for 'fuckin'-A-right'". Ah, yes. As if "fuckin'-A-right" is a sensible grammatic usage that would then be abbreviated in some manner and not simply the adding of "fuckin' a" to the word right for emphasis.
2. "Short for 'fuckin' asshole." I can't disprove that one, except to say I've never run into this usage in 30 years of being alive. Please refer me to a literary or pop culture reference to it being used in this manner, if you want credibility. Thanks.
Others here just chiming in with the "correct" usage.
Fact is, I've heard the expression "fuckin' a" used in a variety of contexts and have never seen any demonstration that any is particularly more "proper" than another.
Some people just toss it into sentences as a kind of flavoring word. Some people say it as a negative exclamation, such as when they stub their toe or something. Some people use it as an emphatic agreement - such as the "fuckin'-A-right" example.
Most people who use it, however, seem to use it in all of these contexts, at one point or another, rather interchangeably.
I've heard many claims to its root or meaning, but I've honestly never seen a credible one and none here seem to be a viable exception.
Regardless of whether there may have been a "proper" usage at one time, popular usage now allows many uses, so please feel free to use it in whatever manner you are comfortable.
