: 1.)I was wondering, how much was equipment rental when you made clerks?
: I am in the first stages of budgeting for my movie and am curious.

While I can't really tell you what film, lighting(grip) and audio equipment cost back in 1993, it really has NO bearing on budgeting for your project. You'd do better to contact some equipment rental companies in your area and/or search over the internet.

: 2.)Also did you secure the soundtrack rights before or after Mirimax picked it up?

With the exception of one or two tracks from local groups, the entire soundtrack was paid for by Miramax, after the original cut of 'Clerks' was purchased at the 1994 Sundance film festival.

: 3.)I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but did you transfer from 16mm to 35mm before editing, or after?

For it's theatrical release, post festival-run, Miramax would have spent the money on all of the extra post-production work (including ADR, Soundtrack, re-edit, etc.) and would have paid for the transfer to 35mm.

Always,
Michael Raben
