: but many, sadly, will lose touch with their religion and not go to mass on a regular basis. Why must it take a terrible tragedy to get many people to start seriously practicing their religion and continue going to church?
Well, for one thing, a lot of us who don't go to church anymore don't look at it as "losing touch with our religion" at all...I still pray to God on a constant basis, and my faith has never wavered for a second...I just got tired of going and listening to grown men in sparkly capes making me feel guilty over EVERY damn thing I find pleasure in...is someone really less of a catholic or ANY faith if they don't congregate at some ugly post-modern building at a set time once a week to sing and chant unenthusiastically with a bunch of other guilty people? I choose to honor and worship God daily in my own ways: private contemplation, reflection, confession, and prayer. And since I believe so strongly in a wise, benevolent God, I think that's just fine with him/her...
