First, I totally didn't expect a response, so thanks a ton. I didn't mean to insinuate that you get your info from some shitty article, that was my bad. And I have to say, there was some cut stuff from Dogma (from Rufus) that was just plain awesome. I mean I watched it and got jazzed, it was fucking sweet.
: No, you saw the diluted 'Gnostic Gospels' by Elaine Pagels scholarship.
I've done plenty of research on the topic, and truthfully I've never read her book. But I do know alot about the gnostics and how prior thought led them to some of their writings. Also, other gnostic writings (such as their creation account of angels raping humans, which fit into their belief of the inferior Creating God that Jesus allegedly took the place of) are purely fanciful. There is bias, even in the G.O.Thomas, and though that can be said of the biblical gospels, there is far more evidence of them actually wanting to record the truth, despite how embarassing that could be.
: Give a brother a break - it was a two hour plus movie (and a comedy, at
: that) we were trying to make. You can't afford to take twenty minutes off
: and do Nag Hammadi justice when you're trying to keep 'em in the seats with
: the yuks at the same time.
True that, you did a real good job.
I'll get off religion on the board, but thanks for the reply Kev. And seriously, thanks for J&SBSJ because it was the single most fufilling experience I've ever had at a movie (short of Indiana Jones teaming up with the Goonies via time travel for one last great adventure with One-Eyed Willy alive and wanting his gold back and Mikey carting around Encino Man AND Pauly Shore).
Take care,
Tom
