In the short run, there might have been some hollow, defiant victory in keeping the twin towers in the movie, but this would also date it in a very dark way. Another trivial issue is the fact that Hollywood now has to fall back on the over-exposed, corny, and overly patriotic symbol of the Statue of Liberty for use in establishing shots.
I think the last thing on the terrorists mind was how their actions affect movie-goers. And by the way what the hell was Spiderman doing during all of this?
