As a caucasian myself, I can't even begin to fathom what she and other arab americans, and those who even resemble arab americans, are goin through. And as a white guy dating a white chick, I can't tell you how I "feel your pain" or "understand you plight" without knowing that I'm so full of shit it's pouring out my ears. I can't come close to knowing what you guys are going through, just as I can't relate to Blacks about slavery, Jews about the holocaust, or japanese americans over the internment camps of WW2.
But just as not all arab americans aren't responsible for the tragic bombing on Tuesday, not all white peopl are guilty of discriminating against arab americans. I guess all I can really offer you is that I, and other like me, have been breaking up fights and verbally lashing anyone who pulls the kind of shit you described. I won't tolerate racism in any of it's forms, even if some misguided idiots think it's patriotism.
But try to take comfort in the knowledge that life does forge ahead and that eventually this terrible time of hatred will come to an end. We can only hope this end comes sooner rather than later so that the suffering of ALL involved, both American and Arab, no matter the skin color.
