I'm getting ready for work and listening to parts of the news. I hear that a plane crashed into the WTC. I think, "Wow, what a horrible accident". But I'm still late for work, so out the door I go. I get to work (at everyones most hated video store) and after learning that 2 planes were hijacked and crashed into both towers possibly killing tens of thousands, my manager and I then find out that a 757 with 420 passengers (later learned to be a little under 50) crashed 80 miles south west of pittsburgh. Well, I AM apx 80 miles south west of pittsburgh. I then find out that it was right beside a little fishing spot, Indian Lake, which is about a 15 minute drive from where I'm working. I'm hearing things all day long. One of which is that the Johstown airport and the 2 mile radius is being evacuated (which is true). Another is that it received several bomb threats (unconfirmed, but not likely) Well, I'm about 5 miles from the airport. The mayor went on the news and radio telling area businesses to close down for the day (though not declaring it a state of emergency). My store manager called her manager to let him no that. He tells us not to close down unless we at the store get a call or fax telling us to do so. The freaking Sheetz store (PAs 7-11 equivalent) across the street from us shut down. They never close.
What a sureal day. Theres one more reason though for you guys to hate Blockbuster.
