Consider this, schools are not used to terrorist attacks so would not be prepared-airpots are supposed to have security messures in place that stop guns getting on to planes.

There would need to be at least 2 terrorists on each plane and possible more because either 1: you need one to fly the plane and one to stop anyone beinga hero (if it's a choice between letting some nut ball crash the plane I'm on into the world trade center or knocking him out when he's trying to fly the plane on his own I know which I'd choose).
or
2: once onboard you kill everyone else, can't do that alone will a gun no small arms holds enough bullets (I think) and if you blow a window out cabin pressure drops and you have to land it.

If it was one person on each plane they would've had to use gas first then taken control of A BIG PLANE alone which is much more difficult if you've never flown such an aircraft and so if it was 1 person on each plane the planning would have to be very good. Just think about every step you'd need to take to take control of a passenger plane with the intention of crashing it into a major American landmark without anyone getting suspicious until it was too late if you really need an answer.

It was a callous, inhuman act but it was very well planned, and if it wasn't then your National security isn't worth much, they hit the pentagon for goodness sake I would think that has restricted airspace.
