Because.... the voice of god is so awesome that only the spirit can bear it. If you were to hear the voice of god you head would explode as you brain couldnt handle it and you are shuffed off the mortal coil.
The same idea as the air of heaven would burst your lungs, the touch of heaven would burn your flesh, only the spirit can surive in heaven.
Metrons purpose is to be Gods voice on earth or to earth, a kinda go between.
So whats the other thing?
