:I have been sitting on an excellent idea that I want to use as a possible script. I was wondering if you have any development tips on how to actually end a storyline. Or to better state the question. Are there rules I should really follow in script develpoment, or all of those books for movie making full of crap?

Like UMBRO said, follow the format, everything else is crap. Fuck Syd Field and Sydney Lumet (in their fucking asses). If you've been watching movies, then 3 act structure is probably already permantently ground into your brain. As for everything else, well, nobody can teach you how to be an artist. Nobody can give you excellent ideas, or tell you how to come up with them. Robert Rodriguez said in his book that all it starts with and all it takes is an idea you are excited about. If you don't know how the story ends yet, give it time, start writing it, and you'll find what direction it's going. You're not going to know every detail before you sit down to put it on paper. If you do, well, fuck you, learn to be spontaneous.

:In addition do you think creating shorts and placing them on the Internet are good ways to get development funds?

I have a feeling that if Kevin Smith were to answer this one, he'd say, "I have no idea, I've never tried that." He funded his first film with credit cards and by selling (temporarily) his comic book collection. Hope this helps.
