Jay and Bob to Kevin have always been safety net. As long as there in his films, fans will always flock to see them. And like most directors Kevin wants to spread his wings and grow as a film maker. So by dropping his Jay and Bob gimmick. He can finally try out new things... open his films to a new group of people.
Did you honestly expect the poor man to be Silent Bob in his 70's. (As funny as that might be to think about) it would never even appeal to us. I think it's a wise decision he has made... my your quandary into this topic be solved.
