I saw the film a couple weeked before it opened at a sneak preview in portland OR. It wasn't a rough cut, it was a polished final print, with the complete credits and final alanis scene intact.
Then a week later at the saturday sneak preview, the first thing i noticed missing was the "reveal" of the mystery machine. it cut straight from being thrown out of the nun's car then the next shot was INSIDE the van. I loved how the mystery machine was revealed, with the cool "streetlight" lighting. but it was completely cut from the final edit.
i didn't notice the lack of the "mallrats pose" you mention. you're probably right, and i just didn't notice.
But one other thing i noticed was when Justice asks Jay to steal the monkey. The first time I saw it I distictly remember hearing her ask the question. But the second time it skipped some of the conversation and cut directly to Jay saying "Steal a monkey?...". very small differences, sure, but you and I, we've seen a slightly longer version of the released film, my friend.
nice spotting.
: Ok, I saw the movie a 2nd time yesterday, and was shocked to notice that at least 2 scenes were different from when I saw them on opening night. I don't know if these scenes were changed on purpose, or of the theater I was at last night had problems with the reel, etc. But here are the 2 changes I noticed:
: 1) When Jay & SB were thrown out of the nun's car, the flick skipped directly to when they were sitting in the back of the Mystery Machine and Fred said "Let's pull off their masks", etc. The part where Jay said something like "I feel like we're in a cartoon" was totally omitted.
: 2) Right after SB shot the Batman gun onto the roof, their little "Mallrats pose" was omitted. It skipped from where you saw the grappling hook snag to Jay & SB shooting up the side of the building.
: I can't understand why these scenes would be cut ... they weren't questionable in any way and didn't add but mere seconds to the film's length. More than likely, it was a problem with the particular theater I was at. But did anyone else notice anything like I did?
