To Kevin Smith:
I'm 20 years old and I am an aspiring filmmaker (please don't stop reading just yet). There seem to be three paths to choose from to become a filmmaker. Go to flimmaking school; go to college and major in flimmaking; or just start making films. I've made a few short films and while I feel it's important to get more of an overall education - especially for writing - I really just want to make films. Basically I want to ask the most cliche question of all. What would you tell someone like me to do? Since you didn't approach filmmaking in a conventional way I thought you might be a good person to ask for advice. I also wanted to ask if you had a method for how you approach your writing. The script seems to be the most important factor in making a good a film so I was wondering if you had any advice on how to create a story out of an idea. If you could offer any help to me I would be most grateful. I'm not even sure if you actually read these posts but I thought it would be worth a try.
If you actually read this and respond thank you for taking the time.
If you dont, thanks for making films.
Ashleigh Stanczak
