Many ten year olds know what a lesbian is or think that they do. They learn LOTS of stuff in grade school that would make you shiver. Most of it wrong. My kids have seen every single Kevin Smith movie and love them all. They aren't babysat by the tv. We talk to them, explain things, answer their questions. This is because we've always raised them in an open atmosphere and they feel comfortable enough to answer questions that other parents wouldn't. Kids are growing up at an earlier age, unfortunately, but the cure is not to treat them like a mushroom - kept in the dark and fed bullshit.
Our culture says that it's ok for kids to watch people stabbing, shooting or cutting up people but sex?!! No way! I just don't understand it. Do they know that 'carpet muncher' is a joke about lesbians? Yes. Do they think that it's a nice thing to call lesbians? No. Do they hate lesbians because of the jokes in Kevin Smith's movies? No. If all they watched were movies and no one talked to them, they might.
Anyone watch Pokemon or Digimon cartoons? Someone is always getting killed or trying to do evil things to someone else. I find that more offensive than anything I've heard in any K.S. movie.
