Alright, here's the deelio.
You can't release something in widescreen if it wasn't intended to be in widescreen.
Jaws was a studio pic and was filmed in anamorphic widescreen so that's why its a rectangle on your screen.
Clerks was an indie pic so Kev had to buy the film stock himself, and the most economic way was the film he used, which was more or less the same dimensions as a square, like your TV.
