(I'd like to preface this post by assuring you all that Clerks and Chasing Amy are without a doubt on my top 10 all-time list...with Dogma possibly squeaking in as well...ie...I'm not a troll ;O)
Was I entertained?
Well...despite my determined effort to have a good time, the dreadful audience in my theatre largely prevented that from happening...
It was a 10pm Sunday night audience here in Windsor, ON, Canada...
And it was by no means empty. I'd say 70 or 80% full...
In spite of a good turnout and for an "after hours" crowd, almost all of the passing references to the other movies were met with complete silence.....
And my best and most disturbing example of how crap the audience was:
Come the Mark Hamill intro...only myself and one, MAYBE two, others in the entire theatre applauded...
It was extremely awkward...it was like I was Silent Bob, and Jay had just pulled his dick out in the back of the van...you just don't want to be there...
I just wanted to go around and smack people and tell them to laugh or leave for Christ sakes...
Some of my American friends were shocked at my news, having seen it themselves to raucous rolling-in-the-aisles type crowds...
I assume it will be a much more rewarding experience when screened on VHS in the sanctity of my wreckroom along with a few of my uber-geek Smith compatriots...
Until then, and presumably through no fault of the film itself...I reluctantly must admit that after soooo long a wait for FINALLY "that one good summer movie" to come along...
I have to say that no...given my extremely high expectations, and extremely bad ("outside"?) audience...
That I wasn't entertained...
