Sunday does count, but only as an estimate until Monday numbers come out. Lee's Movie Data projects Jay and Bob in #3 with $11.1 million, just $0.3 behind Rush Hour 2, which by the way, how the hell did that get so damn popular again this weekend??? This weekend just was too crowded with AP2 still in the marketplace plus four other new films opening, even if it was a Woody Allen flick, a teen baseball picture, a John Carpenter flick and a a bubble movie that drew most of the controversy attention this weekend. Though it's never dead the first weekend out, depending on how its box office "legs" are from week to week, it certainly looks like Dimension will make their money back plus a bit more. It better make at least $35-40 million by the end of the run, cause it deserves at least that if not more. There's also foreign markets too.
Somehow I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of lament and overanalysis of per screen averages and box office statistics this weekend.
If nothing else, look at it this way - by supporting Jay & Bob, we all helped stick it to Bubble Boy.
