I think that they are two completely different types of movies. Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy, and even Mallrats used lots of dialogue (I'm disappointed when VA fans say that Mallrats didn't use the same dialogue humor. The Superman's Baby speech, the Food Court argument, Brodie saying that the Easter Bunny beat him up, etc. I thought that was all classic Kevin Smith). But I digress. J&SBSB was lots of one-liners, and there was not as much (if any) of that dialogue humor. It was more on the level of American Pie and Road Trip. American Pie and Road Trip were hilarious movies, despite the fact that they relied on a bunch of one-liners. The same is true with J&SBSB. The bottom line is, this movie is not a real good introduction to the world of Kevin Smith. If you've seen previous movies, it was good because of all the in-jokes. If you're just looking to bust a gut, it's funny because of the one-liners. I think this movie reaches the widest audience possible, despite what Roger Ebert has to say.
I think what I'm trying to say is...YOU ARE WRONG!
