Let me tell you, the Odessa/Midland area is so assbackwards!
Where to begin? Midland didn't even have the flick anywhere, but I was encouraged to see Odessa was showing it on two screens. Unfortunately, the film shared its openning night with that of the high school football season... needless to say, the theatre was void and desolate.
Having been a confirmed bachelor for low these many years, I have done my share to further the world that is View Askew, turning on every woman I've dated to Jay, Silent Bob, et. al. The latest of these I took to see this film after subjecting her to all the others for an entire week.
As we approached the theater, this little old couple stood in front of the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back poster. "I've never even heard of this Jay and Silent Bob thing," she said.
My date shot me a look, then said; "Should we warn them?"
At any rate, we enjoyed the film with twenty other brave souls who faught the peer-pressure of conformity. Yes, even in that small group of assbackwards red-necks, rough-necks, and good 'ol boys (you can bet Jud Nelson's bit went over real well with this crew) we laughed non-stop and there were even a few moments of applause... though only my date and I had the forsight to keep our butts in the seats to the bitter end.
Thank you Mr. Kevin Smith for making me laugh harder than I have in at least two years. Well, I must away to a good old fashioned Catholic Wedding now but keep up the laughs and can't wait for Fletch. One of my ex-girlfriends STILL has my copy.
