: : It's not ha ha, comedy, lighthearted, funny, though, is it? I don't think so.
: My favorite Musician died because of a heroin OD (Bradley Nowell), and addictions aren't a good thing. BUT... they ARE a laughing matter. Here's why: If you love Kevin Smith films, and then you have to buy a VHS of his work, melt it down, and then shoot it up, that's pretty funny.
that's hardly a realistic analogy, though, is it?
: Now of course we don't do that (I hope) but if you OVER care about something enough to get addicted in the first place, it shows a total lack of self-worth.
It does show a lack of self-worth. That doesn't mean that addiction is worthy of ridicule, though. A simple, and i think accurate analogy for this is depression. Depression is a psycological illness, a major part of which is a lack of self worth. I at least hope that you don't find depression funny or worthy of ridicule. And addiction and depression often go together, so...
: And if you depend on a substance, it's funny. Sad and pathetic, but still funny how you HAVE to depend on that stuff. I find it amusing. But again, that's just me.
I think i can see where you're coming from, but addiction isn't as simple a problem as people being crappy people and fucking themselves up. Generally nice and decent people, with serious personal problems (some of which are partial causes of their addictions, some of which are consequences of their addictions), can be addicts too. They don't deserve being made fun of because of their illnesses and problems.
: I just hate somebody posting, bragging about bitching, you know? anyway, at least your taking this like an intelligent person.
Thank you, kindly. :) but i don't think Kelley was 'bragging about bitching' there. It was a fairly lighthearted post (the Subject was 'I'm published!') with a serious point in there. But i don't think it showed arrogance, which you seem to have perceived and reacted to. I'd find someone bragging about bitching a bit crappy too, but i don't think that was the case there.
And now i'm going to go to bed... :)
