I work for a TV station as a video editor, mostly promotional spots and the like. We currently use Blossom editing systems, with Adobe Premiere 5.5 and reel time effects...Don't get me wrong they are top of the line for Low End commercial grade systems. But the motion on them is sketchy, jerky would probably be a better description. And color correction is a nightmare. I recently saw an AVID at our (OKC)local public station (Government = deep pockets.) I can't recall which one it was "It falls somewhere in between a Composer and a Symphony" is what the editor that was working on it told me. The AVID was an awesome system it was WINDOWS NT based, had real time color correction features, and had motion features that blew away anything I have put my hands on.

Until I saw the Discreet Fire system that my friend who works in a post house in Atlanta gets to put his lucky ass hands on every day. It was fantanstic, at least from my point of view.

I realize that I am asking from video stand point and you are probably more versed in film, but once it is in the computer other than frame rate and aspect ratio there really is not THAT much difference, is there?

My question or questions rather are these:

What could that AVID system have been?

Is the Discreet a supperior system to the AVID? I am coming from a less finess more cut to the beat school of editing... However the powers that be like the finess so I have to mix it up.

I am trying to talk my station into getting one of these systems in hopes that they will replace all of our Blossoms.

Thanks for any help that you might have.
