Why do indy filmmakers make shorts? The way it seems to me (and I know very little about the culture of indy, hence I'm asking someone who knows to clarify :)), shorts stand close to a 1% chance of ever being picked up for distribution.
Do filmmakers just do it to get their name out there? And does it really help? I think about how ABP had no distribution for so long but was still a very hot film on the festival circuit, but it doesn't seem that the buzz alone did anything for your career. Or am I completely wrong?
Do filmmakers NEED distribution to get people to take notice? It seems that way... but again, I don't really know.
Any insight would be appreciated :)
Thanks much!
Matt
