However, I have proof positive that Kevin Smith has hit "the big time," as they say.
Okay, here’s the story. A friend of mine is getting married next month. Tomorrow night is his bachelor party, which will include the prerequisite strip club visit. As anyone knows, the standard cheesy-but-humorous gifts are essential to ANY bachelor party. Therefore, night before last, myself and two others involved with planning this little soiree hit the local adult bookstore in search of "that special something" to embarrass him. Or at least to find something that’ll make him laugh.
I think we’ve found something that will definitely do both, my friends.
While browsing (which, thankfully, was not accompanied by the typical way-too-eager-to-help salesperson... seeing as it’s some smarmy porno shop, you don't receive actual customer service), we stumbled across a DVD title bearing a striking resemblance to one of Mr. Smith’s films. It is titled "Chasing Stacy," and with all three shoppers present being huge View Askew fans, we felt obliged to buy it. I mean, any porno movie with a sticker price of around 20 bucks deemed to be worthy of DVD transfer simply MUST be a masterpiece, right?
Anyway, while I haven’t actually yet viewed this particular film, curiosity will someday consume me and I shall. If it parodies the plot and/or characters of Amy at all, it will be marked 'People’s Exhibit A' in the case of Kevin Smith v. Hollywood. The way I see it, you haven’t "arrived" until the oh-so-prestigious porn industry starts copying your work.
Hell, who knows? Maybe even Affleck is in it. Playing Reindeer Games, indeed.
