SPOILERS IN HERE.............
I saw this in Orange, CT. I bought my ticket at noon to make sure I'd get in. It looked like they were playing it in two theaters because a theater other than the one I was in had the "Jay and Silent Bob" tag outside it.
I was surprised... the theater I was in was... um... it had a lot of people, but a lot of empty seats as well. More people than empty seats, though.
There was LOTS of laughter. One guy dressed as Silent Bob. There seemed to be a group of die hards who just happened to end up in the same area (the guy dressed like Silent Bob was one of us) who clapped at everything like the "chocolate covered pretzel" line and the Mallrats/Batman grappling hook thing. Pretty much ANYTHING that referenced another movie. The Magnolia Fan name got a great applause.
The BIGGEST laugh - bar none - without a shadow of a doubt was Silent Bob calling jay a dumb fuck, or whatever it was. I personally laughed for the entire next scene on that joke alone. It got the most uproarious laugh and applause I've ever been privy to.
For the few of us that stayed for the credits, there was probably the second biggest laugh of the night at the "no gay people were harmed" bit. Great stuff. Just awesome. There were a few people who seemed pretty die hard who were waiting with bated breath for the "Jay and Silent Bob Will Return In..." line, and seemed genuinely shocked and greatly dismayed by what replaced it.
Someone I was with said during the credits roll "Alanis Morrsette was in this movie? I didn't see her!" Of course we laughed hardily when the credits were finished.
Oh yeah - almost forgot (there was so much in this movie my mind is in overload)... the "kick some ass" sequence got MAJOR laughs. Maybe the first attack of that was the second loudest laugh of the flick.
The one thing that REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY disappointed me... I really thought you were going to put the Vulgar cartoon in from of the flick... would have been a great bookend.
All in all, it was definately the best way I can imagine you could have sent Jay and Silent Bob off in... the Alanis cameo was a touch of brilliance.
Oh - oddly the Willam cameo got a pretty strong laugh/applause.
The Biggs Van Der Beak part was one of my favorite moments in the film, personally.
Well... that was my experience. I can't wait for next Friday... I will DEFINATELY see it again. And again. And again.
If Kevin is reading this, here's a question. Seeing as how this is the end of Jay and Silent Bob on the big screen, I have to ask about the Askewniverse. Can you tell us anything about any Askew comics (specifically a monthly Askewniverse title?) or the Clerks cartoon? Are any of these things still happening? Or are they dead in the water?
It's been a WONDERFUL run and I'm waiting with bated breath for the next "Fatherhood" movie. I was REALLY hoping there'd be a plug for that at the end of JASBSB so we could see the title. Are you going to be as secretive with this one as you were with JASBSB? Will this be VA6 (as it will be a View Askew film... but then again so are ABP, Drawing Flies, and BHD... so really JASBSB wasn't the fifth View Askew Film... but I digress)?
Thanks much!
Matt
