Mewes wrangler!
I was at the Rochester Sneak. Room was half full but it was full of fans.
The best part of the evening was the 20 or so hardcore fans who stayed til
the VERY end knowing something was up singing along to "I got High" during
the credits.
I went with a guy who has seen Clerks and Amy and a guy who has only seen
Dogma. I really liked it, friend one enjoyed it and friend two kept asking
what we were laughing at. Pretty good response from the crowd but the
general vibe going out was that people were slightly disappointed and it
would be a "wait for the video" recommend. This comment actually came from
a guy in a Clerks t-shirt. There are a handful of really funny sequences
and the in jokes were good but all the nods to the audience and actors
smiling through the scenes (Affleck and Damon especially) was too much for
my tastes. It was like watching a Sienfeld episode from the first couple
of years where Jerry was smiling through a funny scene and you knew it was
like the 20th take and the best they had.
Lot of gay jokes but most were funny (esp. Biggs and Van Der Beek
discussing the "gay huddle") and in keeping with the characters. Scarface
levels of fu*k and bitch. I'm not stranger to the blue language but this
was like a Red Foxx tape and seemed awkward coming from EVERY character in
the flick.
One last comment, I would liked to have seen Jay make at least one genuine
sweet gesture to better justify Justice falling for him.
Definite see for everyone here obviously but probably not a date flick or a
great one to initiate a "new to ViewAskew" fan with. Great way to cap off
the series by tying up loose ends but I don't think this will become many
hard core fans new favorite.
