It doesn't actually shock me, but it does never cease to amaze and fascinate me.
I think Kevin Smith is a talented filmmaker, and more than that, from my experience here and, to a lesser extent elsewhere, he seems like a really nice and interesting fellow. I don't, however, worship him as a god of any sort. I've stood a foot away from him and seen him get kind of flustery. I've respectfully disagreed with him on any number issues.
I don't think he's inherently right in every situation, nor would I imagine that I'd want him to be. I like him as a guy who happens to make cool movies.
So, I'm at a loss for why other people have this other reaction. This need to agree with his every opinion. To leap forward and express their outrage for him at the slightest wrong no matter how ill-perceived.
Sometimes I just get irritated, other times I just have a kind of sick fascination of watching a car wreck. And still others I like to pick at them like a scab on my leg, despite my better judgment.
I'm overexplaining again.
But the point is, I'm honestly not surprised.
