Audacious individuals like Mr. Smith are the bread and butter of potentially overzealous publicity hounds who have a tendency to succumb to the allure of organized mob mentality (Re: Dogma).

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the "fag" references in J&SBSB are depicted in an innocuous context that epitomizes the personalized, ball-busting rapport that Jay and Silent Bob have established throughout their association.

I'm also going to assume that any or all of the homosexual references are in no way, shape, or form analogous to Eminem's "hate fags, the answer's yes" invective on his best-selling, grammy-winning album.

I am not a homophobic person. I am not against organized groups. I respect everyone's god given rights to uninhibited free will. But, for the life of me, I wish that organized groups would thoroughly assess all of the facets of situations like these before the proverbial knee jerk reaction kicks in.

If, at one point in the duration of the film, Jay stares directly into the camera and declares an intense hatred of the homosexual populace, I could understand the uproar.

But, knowing full well the depth of Mr. Smith's sensibilities, I know that is not the case. I refuse to believe that the man who created Chasing Amy (one of the most sensible films to deal with sexual orientation) could create a work that could be viewed as maliciously offensive to homosexuals in general.

I don't know all the facts of this issue. I just read the story over at AICN and was perturbed. I hope, for the sake of all the participants involved, that the people at GLAAD are not stirring this pot just for the sake of a polemic and/or publicity.
