I'm not much of an artsy person, but I have had a few art appreciation classes.

It seems that good art has always offended someone. As you said, walking down the middle, trying to be careful NOT to ofend anyone yeilds boring cinema.

I've come to the conclusion that most people are not willing to put much thought into art (including myself). But I do always start with the premise that whatever I see in the work was put there intentionally by the artist. That usually provokes one to ask: Why is this here?

It appears to me that those who see this movie as gay bashing, or otherwise neagative towards gays have not asked themselves "why is it there?" OR they are worried that the "target" audience won't ask "why."

Whatever.

However, I think GLADD missed a huge opportunity. Imagine what people would think if, instead of decrying the flick, they spent the same effort and resources pointing out WHY it is funny, and how the movie satarizes anti-gayness. They could be in the position of educating, rather than protesting. And these days, something other than protesting would be a refershing change of public relations from a group representing a minority class of persons.
