If a mugger is waving a knife at you, does he actually have to say the words, 'I'm gonna cut you', or is that implied by the situation?
The un-spoken-yet-clear threat in this case is that if Miramax (and Kevin by extension - it's his baby after all, the film) doesn't pay up GLAAD will drag it (them) thru the mud in the press by labeling them (and the film) homophobic. And that's something they know Kevin would want to avoid. Remember: 'One may smile and smile and be a villain.'

It's a presumption only because the threat wasn't verbally expressed. And it's a pretty dead on presumption if what Kevin said is accurate (as we're also presuming).
