as far as i heard it, the studio didn't want Lee or Joey for Chasing Amy. they wanted Kevin to cast Drew Barrymore and David Schwimmer instead, so what did Kevin do? he walked form the studio and their money, stuck to his guns and made the movie independently with Lee and Joey.
