Thanks for the insight.

As far as Allred goes.....think of it this way. If every artist everywhere in the world chose to maintain artistic integrity over paying thier bills, we would never get to see some amazing work.

Nirvana is a perfect example of this. I'm not a Nirvana fan but I know alot of people who are. A friend of mine was playing the Seattle scene with them when they got offered thier first record contract. He told me that Kurt turned it down because he didn't want thier Seattle fan base to think they were going big to get cash. Long story short- they eventually signed on, "sold out", and became one of the biggest forces of change in the early 90's music scene. If they had decided to stay in obscurity to please a few small fans they never would have reached the amount of people they did in the end.

I used to bitch about people selling out all the time.....I listen to punk rock and part of listening/being a punk is bitching about sell outs. I eventually realised that punk music, movies and everything else is a buisness. Allreds job is to do comics.....and if I was him and had the choice of continuing The Atomics or going to X-Force I would have chose the same way he did. It looks better on his resume. This is a job for him....he isn't there to please the fans....he's there to make money and to satisfy his artistic cravings.

In short, don't be so hard on people for "selling out"....unless thier name is Blink 182 and then they fucking desrve it. (manipulating the masses to make money isn't selling out....it's just fucking wrong!)

: ...Cause more comics nowadays seem to sell more when there's violence, language and possibly nudity. I was talking to my friend the other day who owns a comic book store how Mike Allred is selling out. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy! Let me narrow it down for ya..first was Madman. Was a awesome book and become loved by geeks of all kind. Next, he gave Madman a rest and went to the Atomics. Which started out great but ended on #14!? What the hell...why? Because, Mike went to go draw X-Force for a couple of issues. While Madman and the Atomics are good comics they aren't really that hot on the market. Meawhile X-force is. So he went for the money. No I know your thinking....hmmm lot's of money in one hand or...just enough money to pay the rent in the other hand...which one should i take...??? But the fact of the matter is..you have to think about the fans too man. You just can't end a series and do a guest writing on Superman because you'll get paid more. Now I can understand if you suspended a series..wrote something else for a little while..then came back to your orginal comic but Mike's not doing that! And that's what's making me angry. He's a very talented artist and writer for comics but the last Madman issue came out well over a year ago. I just wish he would start writing again that's all. But...meanwhile, "the code" defines this perpose almost. By dropping it, comic writers will be given more to work with and more fanboys will drool over it then buy three copies of the same comic. One to sell later in the future, one to read, and one to keep in plastic. It's how the market works...give what the people want and then you'll bring in the motherloads. Marvel is starting to sell out too I believe, it seems their more concerned about money than the fans. I remember back in the day when Chris Claremont used to write for X-men and it was all good. Now, X-men characters look like they do from the movie. Not cool. They look fucking gay and it pisses me off how they suddenly change the characters within the span of a month. Just look at Beast for god's sake. Stan Lee needs to get back over in Marvel and whoop some ass. Get out of DC man, I like it too but damn. Look what people are doing with your characters! Well I'm done yelling my comic-book-collecting ass off now. Peace.
