The last time I watched it, I got the feeling that there were a few important scenes that didn't make the cut for some reason or another. It was poorly edited, as well (eg. the abrupt close-ups on Malkatraz's last few lines). I think they were going for the whole 'german' cutting style...either that, or it was the 10+ different production studios credited in the opening shot, each pushing the flick thier own way.
