It's quite possibly the single most overrated movie in the history of the world… or at least among its supporters it is.

Wow, guess those guys really rubbed you the wrong way. I thought it was a great, funny, li'l indie movie. The odd friendship that Vaughn had with Favereau in the movie was very well realized.

And the pathetic break-up-ee was sometimes cringeworthy in it's accurateness. AND, * I thought, at least,* it had some really hysterical moments.

: It had pretentious character,

PRETENTIOUS? Huh? I think you might be using the wrong word. If you didn't jive with it, and it didn't speak to you at all, I can see you labeling it "wanna-be-hip," or "forced," but PRETENTIOUS? What movie did you watch?

I thought THIN RED LINE tried for a certain tone, and, in my estimation, missed that tone, and therefore ended up pretentious. James Lipton, on INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO, is pretentious. SWINGERS, if you don't like it, could be considered "annoying," "cloying," or "unfunny," but what pretension did it evidence? (Keep in mind, I liked it just fine, and watch it whenever it comes on HBO or SHOWTIME or whatever.)

annoying jargon,

TO each his own. I found it clever and funny, and the script self-aware of the "poseur" nature of the jargon.

amazingly contrived character arcs,

???

self-conscious direction.

What does that mean?

: Maybe because there's only so successful you can be when you're an asshole who can't play outside the box very far.

WOW!! Man, do you hate him. He always comes off very cool and intelligent in interviews. And he's got "star appeal," whether his projects become hits or not.
