how do wednesday releases work?

i've been thinking about it for a while now, and with the release of jsbsb now being moved to august 22nd, i wanna find out how this really works: so how do wednesday releases work in terms of box office numbers? do they start counting the numbers on wednesday? or do they start on friday for the weekend?

it doesnt sound fair to movies released on friday if the money starts being counted on wednesday, since a wed. movie would get a head start. but it doesnt seem all that fair for the wed. movie if they start counting on friday, cuz they would lose some numbers they got on the first two days.

so could somebody help straighten this out for me? thanks.

and if its the latter, i'm watching it again on friday :).
