and you realize that Fletch Won is the PERFECT vehicle for Kevin's talents.

Kevin's work is original, funny and writes great dialogue. The Fletch books are all original, funny and have terrific dialogue. Kevin credits the author of the Fletch books (Gregory Mcdonald) with helping him learn to write, and the witty, dialogue-heavy, fast paced writing of Fletch Won would be great as a Kevin Smith movie. (but NOT "A Film By Kevin Smith")When you factor in the Jason Lee element (his delivery is custom-fitted to Mcdonald's writing) you have the potential for a film to actually do justice to a GREAT book. (and how rare is THAT!!!!??)

Look at Kevin's artistic growth since Clerks. Notice how he has grown as a storyteller and a film maker. Kev's touch makes perfect sense here (to me at least), and implying that his talent is wasted on a Fletch movie is to pigeon hole Kevin as an "indie" film maker incapable of anything but dick and fart jokes and long diatribes about Starwars.

Give the man some respect as a director.

some days you think of the witty tag lines, and then there's today.

: This is what bothers me about the idea of doing Fletch Won. We love
: Kevin for his writing. Directing someone else's story and characters
: seems like a waste of time for a guy like him. I mean, I'm sure he'd
: write the screenplay based on the book and he'd throw in his own
: dialogue, but it would still be limited by someone else's characters
: and situations. Bad idea, I say.
