And as much as A.I.'s got the Spielberg touch on it, the basic themes, concept and structure (other than the odd ending which appears to be a Spielberg addition) seems to be coming from Kubrick.
He might have been critically loved, but look -- "Eyes Wide Shut" wasn't going to win any Blockbuster awards. Every other Kubrick film pretty much bombed at the box office as well. So what? N'Sync sells ten million, that don't make it art. People fear, or fail to understand Kubrick movies, I think.

: I just saw "A.I" the other night. I think I might have been the only person in the theatre that actually liked the movie. I don't understand why so many people hate it. I mean, it was pretty long but I don't think that being long makes a movie bad.
